The Boll Weevils fought hard, but came up short in their season opener against #10 nationally ranked Georgia Highlands 85-80. The Weevils lead the whole game, but just could not hold the lead. Kainon Pouncy led the team with 20pts 13rebs, while Deshunta Smith added 14pts, Mathew Mazique 12pts, and Shedrick Cooper 16pts.
Game two of the Chipola Classic saw the Boll Weevils come up short again, but this time it was NJCAA powerhouse Chipola College who handed over the loss. The Indians pulled away in the 2nd half to win by a final score of 102-69. The Weevils showed promise in the first half of play, but ran out of steam in the second half. Chipola's size around the rim really took a toll on the Weevils. Kainon Pouncy lead the way again with 29pts and 12rebs.
The Boll Weevils will travel Monday(11/5) to take on north region Marion Military with a 7pm tip-off time.
